Mai hadn’t even noticed the amount of time that had passed, she’d spaced out while lying on Zuko’s shoulder. “Hmm..wha?” she said dazily as he stood. She rubbed an eye and lay back on the saddle, crossing her legs. A shiver ran down her back and she pulled the blanket around herself for warmth and sat in silence. She was very relaxed, but not in the mood to really talk to anyone at the moment. So she lay there, and waited for Zuko to return.
“Well EXCUSE me your majesty! You said where we were going, you never said the order! Home sweet home it is, I guess Suki will have to wait a little bit longer to meet Gran Gran…” Sokka said with a sad tone to his voice. He was a little happy not to pick her up first, it was going to be cold at this time of year, then again, it’s always cold in the South Pole, but if he was to take her, it would be in the warmest months possible. From this point, Sokka barely needed to look at the map, he new which way was South, and at that point, finding his way was a piece of cake. Piece of cake….Sokka was hungry too. He couldn’t wait to go home and enjoy some lovely home cooked food, and see how the rebuild of the South Pole was going. Soon, very soon, he would be back to his ice filled home.
Ty Lee was excited to go to the South Pole. All her life she had only known of heat and fire, but she was excited to play in the fluffy snow! She wanted to meet the entire southern water tribe, and talk to them about stories and tales and how pretty waterbending was. “Oh yeah,” she thought,”Katara was the last waterbender!” Ty Lee got bored of thinking and went to go talk to Sokka, despite him trying to fly a giant bison. “Hey Sokka! Are we there yet? How long will it be? Isn’t the sky so pretty? Hey Katara, can you waterbend the clouds to look like hearts??? That would be so pretty!!!”
Katara shrugged at Zuko, chuckling. “I was just told about all this the day before we left. Oh, really? We’re going home? Great!” The girl beamed brightly, before turning towards Ty Lee with a proud smile. “Yep, I’m the only waterbender from the South Pole! Well, the only one who isn’t crazy.” She corrected with a sheepish grin, shooting a glance towards Sokka when she remembered Hama. “Uh, I guess I can. Aang and I have bended clouds before, it’s really cool! It helps if he was airbending with me, though.”
Beginning of a New Era: imcompletelycalm: pinkest-aura: Ty Lee had been up for hours, since 2…
Getting onto Appa was a synch for Ty Lee, so she made it important that she was the first one on, Appa being adorable to her. She watched Zuko carry Aang,…
“Thanks,” she said as he placed the blanket around her. She was a bit cold. “I’m fine, really.” she said, turning down his offer of food. She was a bit unnerved by the tension that was going on between her and Sokka, but she’d get over it. She was here for Zuko and to find her family, and she wasn’t regretting her decision to come along with the rest of the group.
Her mind drifted as she lay her head on Zuko’s shoulder. This would be good for her. Getting out into the world again, and doing so with people who weren’t Azula. People who would treat her and Ty Lee with more respect, like actual friends. That is once they got to know them better.
“Very funny Katara, you almost never drive, so you have no room to talk,” Sokka said as he sat, holding Appa’s reins as they flew to the sky, with Momo beside him. He looked to his flying companion, he wondering if Momo understood what Aang was going through right now. He regularly questioned why Momo knew and what he didn’t, he had a feeling the lemur knew more than he let on. The boy quickly shook his head at the thoughts that were consumed with Momo, he was bored. He listened to Ty Lee’s hyped up rant and replied with a sarcastic, yet friendly, “I am excited to see Suki too, Ty Lee. May I call you Ty? You can pass a biscuit up here any time you feel like it. I don’t know if I am excited as you are, but I am still pretty excited,” Sokka thought about the places Ty Lee was listing off and wondered which place they were going to first, “Uhhh…Zuko…mind telling me where we are going to first, it’s a kind of important detail..” he said, rubbing his head with confusion.
Ty Lee watched Katara gently touch Aang to make sure he was okay. She smiled, thinking how happy they were. Ty Lee went on about how she was really excited. She eventually ran out of things to say…and stopped talking. She started brushing her hair, and about an hour later, she passed around the biscuits in her bag, unsure what to do with Aang’s, so she just set it in front of him. Mai and Zuko were cuddling, so she decided not to disturb them unless they asked. She happily ate her biscuit wordlessly letting some people have a break from her long conversation.
Katara stuck her tongue out at Sokka, rolling her eyes. “Please. I bet even Toph could steer better than you. Probably even Aang. When he’s in the spirit world.” She grinned happily, to let him know that she really was joking. The next hour passed in a whirlwind of conversation-mostly stemming form Ty Lee, of course. The girl knew how to talk-she seemed nice, though. Incredibly nice. Too nice to have ever sided with Azula. Of course, Katara didn’t point that out. No, she just smiled and nodded, occasionally breaking in with a few comments when it was appropriate to do so. “Oh, thank you!” The waterbender said gratefully, as Ty Lee passed out the biscuits. “I’m sure he’ll wake up eventually…” She said, giving Aang a rueful smile as she patted his shoulder. “Yeah Sokka, where exactly are we going?”
Mai had woken up early that day to get ready. Since she’d packed the night before, all she had needed to do was bathe and dress, then go. She met the group at the front gate. She noticed Aang on Sokka’s back, his arrows glowing. Zuko had told her about this, so she had a general idea of what was going on with that. He was directing the group and helping them onto Appa’s back. She smiled a bit, he was moving into his position of leadership rather nicely.
When it was her turn to get on Appa’s back, she took hold of his hand and climbed up onto the flying bison. She settled in next to Ty Lee and Katara, and purposely avoided sitting next to Sokka. She still didn’t like him. But she would attempt civility as long as he didn’t do anything to offend her. Otherwise things would get very unpleasant for the both of them. She didn’t want to ruin anything for the others either. So she decided to just avoid him and only talk to him if it was necessary. Seeing as she found him to be a bit of an idiot, that wouldn’t be much of a problem. She would never say that aloud though.
Sokka huffed at carrying at Aang’s dead weight over his shoulders, like a dead lion-deer, to make matters worse, he had three bags on his arms. “Katara, if I am going to carry YOUR boyfriend around, the least you can do is help me with my bags. I am not your pack mule!” The warrior complained to his sister as they neared Appa and the gang. They were on their way to Appa earlier, but they decided to check on Aang, only to find the boy Meditating in the Avatar state. Normally, they try not to move Aang, but the gang had to leave soon, so Sokka and Katara decided to screw it and take him with them. According to Sokka, Aang is ‘a big boy that can find his way back to his body without it being in the same spot it was before’ and ‘it would at least be a bit quieter for some part of the trip’. Unfortunately, what Sokka didn’t realize, he had volunteered himself to be the Avatar carrier until said Avatar awoke from his slumber. “Stupid Avatar state meditation…..always killing the mood..” he mumbled to himself and ignored whatever Katara might have to say about his complaining.
When they finally reached the flying bison, Sokka dumped Aang’s limp body into Zuko’s empty hands and took the map. He tossed his bags up, not caring where they flew, opened the map and examined it. “Well…I do like navigating…” He said with a smirk on his face. While Zuko was helping up Aang, Sokka swung up, tied down his bags and sat up by the the drivers seat. When Mai got on, the tension was there, hard to ignore, but not brutal, maybe they could make it through the trip on one piece after all.
“Welcome aboard the Appa express, this is your co-pilot and full time navigator, I see you have all found your seats. I also see that we have some first time flyers with us, no worries, I would be happy to give you the run through of the procedures of the flight. Please, keep all feet, arms, and another body parts, in the saddle at all times. Do not feed Appa, unless it’s feeding time….okay you can feed Appa pretty much anytime, just don’t spoil him. Please place all loose items in your bags and then securely, tie them down in the back. Someone please wipe Aang’s mouth! He is drooling all over himself.. During your travels, you may experience some turbulence, but I assure you that everything is fine. Having fire balls thrown at us is an everyday thing,
especially by angst ridden princes, Appa is now a experienced dodger. If you are hungry, I am sure there will be a snack cart around your shortly….anything meat is four copper pieces. Thank you and enjoy your flight on the Appa express!” Sokka said with a overly cheery voice, he was mincing Judee, a guide they had in Ba Sing Se, Katara was probably the only one who got the joke. With that, the boy slid down on Appa’s neck and waited for when they would take off.Getting onto Appa was a synch for Ty Lee, so she made it important that she was the first one on, Appa being adorable to her. She watched Zuko carry Aang, glowing, onto Appa. She asked what was going on, but all she would get was “Avatar Stuff”. Ty Lee hugged Katara as she got onto Appa, this being one of the first times she had, them being enemies until recently. Mai got on shortly after and took her position next to Ty Lee, where she was greeted with a hug and a, ” Good morning, Mai!!!”. Sokka began his speech about something something Appa, while Ty Lee leaned over the bison to give him a biscuit that he had taken from her room, earlier. She began to talk once Sokka stopped and they were in the air (after a few “whee”s escaped her mouth). “Guys!!! Are you all as excited as I am??? I’m so excited to go to the Southern Water Tribe! Or is it the Northern Water Tribe? Did everyone sleep okay? I slept great! I’m so excited to see Suki again!!!! When are we going to Kyoshi island, again? I brought some biscuits if anyone’s hungry! This is going to be so much fun!!!”
Katara rolled her eyes at Sokka’s complaints, walking near him nonetheless to be sure that Aang was okay. “Fine, I’ll hold your stuff.” The girl said with a laugh, shouldering one of his bags and grinning at Aang. “So long as your weak muscles don’t give out and you don’t drop him, that is.” Giving her brother a stern look, Katara turned to grin at Appa and the others.
It was still a little unsettling to be with Mai, Ty Lee, and even Zuko after the war. She was so used to being chased by the three… even when Zuko decided to help defeat Ozai, Katara had a hard time getting used to things. But they were friends now, at least. She had no doubts about him. The other two… well, Katara was an expert waterbender, after all. “Thanks!” She said brightly as Zuko helped her and the others up, before she was engulfed in a… hug? “Oh, hi Ty Lee.” She couldn’t help but grin-the girl was a menace in a fight, but maybe she wasn’t so bad, now that they weren’t enemies. The waterbender nodded towards Mai, remembering that the knife-thrower was one of little words. “Hey Mai-Sokka, you can’t charge people for food!” Katara laughed at his obvious imitation of Judee though, and reached forwards to look at Aang. “He’s fine, just try to fly Appa in a straight line. Remember last time you tried to take over?” The girl grinned sweetly, before quirking an eyebrow up at Ty Lee’s rapid-fire speech.
Though she didn’t show it, Mai was actually kind of excited for this trip. And she never got excited. She was actually looking forward to getting to know some of Zuko’s friends better. Socializing didn’t come very naturally to her, and most things bored her, but she was willing to give things a try for Zuko.
She wasn’t one to pack very heavily, just the necessities. Anything else she wanted she could possibly pick up during the trip. She packed the obvious essentials: clothes; her darts, knives, and other various weapons; a fairly reasonably sized bag of money; as well as a few grooming items; as well as a few other stray things that she thought might come in handy during the trip.
Mai hoped that while on this trip, she and Zuko would get to spend some quality time together as well. It had been a while since they’d gotten to be alone together, especially with all his duties as Firelord. Despite travelling with a group, they’d be sharing a tent, which meant they’d get some privacy away from the others. It wasn’t much, but she was thankful that they’d have the opportunity to get closer.
On top of that, she’d be looking for her family. She didn’t know how they would feel when they saw her again. For all she knew, they could still be loyal to Ozai, and that fact scared her more than anything. Would they approve of her shift of loyalties, or would they be perfectly fine with the changes that had occurred since they’d last seen each other? All sorts of questions rattled through her mind as she laid her bag of belongings on the floor. She curled up on her bed, eventually drifting to sleep, though her mind was still whirring with what was to come.
Sokka woke up and dragged himself out of the bed to look in a near by mirror. His hair was a mess and he needed to shave, he adjusted himself accordingly and then noticed the position of the sun. “Oh no! I over slept! I need to meet the others soon….let’s see what do I need?” the water tribe warrior said to himself as he started to run around the room, sorting through his stuff. Sure he had already had things ready from traveling before, since he was just a guest at the palace, but since he had arrived, Sokka had managed to scatter all of his belongings across the room. The maids had even given up trying to clean, since it would return to the state it was before in a matter of hours. The only things that were packed was the boy’s weapons, at least that he had left and had no use for in the palace, and a bag of food he packed from the palace kitchen the night before. He quickly ran around the room and threw everything he owned back into his bag, he sat on it to get it close and had a maid try to string it shut.
“Thanks for the help!” Sokka called to the maids as he ran down the hallway searching for his friends. He was tired of being a guest in the ‘Royal palace’, he missed adventure and his missed his home. His weapon bag was pretty empty, since he lost his space sword and his boomerang never came back, you can’t just replace things like that. Sure, Sokka was upset and had a slight identity crisis, but he figured that since the war was over, he had no use for them. Until now that is, Sokka found himself hoping to find them on the trip, “Katara must be rubbing off on me….” He mumbled to himself. He was a bit worried about being on the trip with Mai. Sokka in no way questioned Mai’s loyalty, ever since the boiling rock break out, but she didn’t seem to like him and was very good with knifes. At least Suki would be there to keep him safe, “Suki…” Sokka said with a big smile as he lean against the wall, he missed his girl friend ever since she went back to Kyoshi to help the island recover, he was secretly worried about her. Snapping out of his lover boy mood, Sokka ran around the main halls screaming Zuko’s name, unsure of their meeting place, he had forgotten it.
Ty Lee had been up for hours, since 2 in the morning to be exact. She hadn’t slept because she was so excited for the trip. She really had no point in going, but she was only there for the fun, anyway! She had packed her things earlier that morning, and it consisted of a bathing suit, several changes of clothes, and make-up and grooming supplies. She flipped over to her bag, and left the room smiling and perky. She cleared her mind of negative thoughts, and made sure her aura was the pinkest of pinks before she saw her friends. She wanted to start off the adventure on a high note, and she wanted to make sure it was known that she was there to help, not just for entertainment!
Katara squinted in her mirror, her face finally cracking a grin as she leaned away, running fingers through her loose hair. She was glad to finally change out of her Fire Nation clothes-the soft blue of her Southern Water Tribe furs just felt right. Much more comfortable, in any case. Drawing water from one of the canteens at her hip, Katara quickly went over the stone floor, knowing that she should keep her room extra-clean. The maids would already have their hands full with Sokka’s, and she wouldn’t want to burden them any more than he would. Throwing a rucksack on her bed, Katara filled it with the essentials-a few extra clothes, bandages, food-and a bison whistle. One could never leave home without a bison whistle, after all. Tossing the bag over her shoulder, the waterbender spared herself one last glance in the mirror before walking out.
“Sokka?” Katara laughed, rolling her eyes as her brother came barreling through the hallway. “Quiet down, this is a royal palace, after all.” The girl chided, placing her hands at her hips. A new vial of spirit water-from her last visit to the Northern Water Tribe-dangled from her neck, quivering and glowing a faint blue as her tone turned stern. “They’re probably just at the gates or something. I wonder if Aang’s there yet?” Brightening up, Katara headed for the front doors of the palace, a wide grin on her face. Sure, she enjoyed relaxing in luxury with all of her friends, but the thought of another adventure with all of her friends was infinitely more exciting. Especially now that they didn’t have to worry about the war. “Let’s go, Sokka.”
You know what….after much given thought, I have decided that you two are right. Katara is hilarious:
And guess what, I do get her humor after all.
Of course you’re hilarious, Aang!
Well, thanks Sokka! That’s very nice of you.
But I…
….It was sarcasm, I am the Meat and Sarcasm guy…..
Why am I not surprised… At least I’m a better fisher than you.

You can’t be the meat and sarcasm guy if you can’t catch meat. Then you’d just be the hungry sarcasm guy.
cabbagecart asked: Young lady, hello. I hear that you are one of the foremost experts of waterbending in the world. *peers at Katara closely* I don't suppose you have any advice about water cycles for my cabbages?
Hello sir! Oh, why, thank you! I do happen to be a waterbending master. I’m afraid I don’t know much about cabbages, though. We didn’t really grow much in the South Pole, I don’t think plants like the ice very much… But I think they need a lot of water. More so than most plants. So give them one good soak per week, unless you get a lot of rain.
agreed, an order.ooc: uhh, yeah! order! (Am I supposed to make up the order?)
le ooc: first who is on this thread? Are we leaving Katara behind? lol. Or is she coming too? Is aang going to have momo take her letters?
ooc: hahaha aw well that’s up to you and katara! Everyone is invited!! But SO FAR we know that for sure you, Mai, Ty Lee, and Zuko are going! (everyone is welcome!)

What are you saying about me, Sokka? I am too funny! Right Aang? Aang knows what he’s talking about. He is the avatar, after all.
